Trump won't back down from saying 'Mission Accomplished' in Syria

It was a phrase that haunted George W. Bush for the last six years of his presidency, and became a shorthand for a premature declaration of victory. But President Trump says he wants to bring "Mission Accomplished" back. Trump used those two words Saturday following what he said was a successful airstrike against targets related to Syria's chemical weapons program.  In a largely uncontested attack, U.S., British and French forces unleashed 105 missiles on three Syrian chemical weapons facilities. The goal of the attack was to hit the "very heart" of Syria's chemical weapons program by targeting its research, development and storage facilities. However, it is not expected to weaken Syrian President Bashar Assad's grip on power in the region.

Trump denounces Comey as 'untruthful slime ball'

President Trump stepped up his unrelenting Twitter rant at former FBI director James Comey on Sunday, accusing him of "many lies" and dismissing the one-time federal prosecutor as the WORST FBI director in history, by far!" The attacks come hours before Comey's interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos was scheduled to air Sunday night. Comey is promoting his new book to be released this week,  Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership. Leaked excerpts have detailed Comey's mistrust of Trump, whom he describes as "ego driven" and "untethered to the truth."

Flights canceled, roads treacherous amid spring snowstorms

A winter-like spring storm pounded the central United States on Sunday with heavy snow, rain and hail that grounded hundreds of flights, closed highways and canceled Major League baseball games and church services. And Mother Nature's April surprise that packed a deadly punch from the Gulf Coast to northern Wisconsin and Michigan isn't over yet. More snow is possible from two storm systems that could bring more severe weather in the week ahead.

Advocates push for research-based legislation during March for Science

During the second annual March for Science in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, thousands of people  advocated for science to play a larger role in society — and stressed how research already ripples through a slew of issues from guns to immigration. While turnout was much lower this year compared to the estimated 100,000 at the first D.C. march, the passionate crowd wasn't deterred. Their message to public officials: Evidence-based policy decisions are critical and science should not be ignored.

Philadelphia police chief defends officers who arrested black men at Starbucks

The CEO of Starbucks apologized, the mayor of Philadelphia was "heartbroken," and the city police commissioner defended officers who handcuffed and arrested two black men who asked to use a restroom in the coffee shop.  A cellphone video recorded the arrests, including a white man who was meeting the men at the Center City shop repeatedly asking officers "What did they do?" as the men were being handcuffed and taken away. The video was posted Thursday and went viral over the weekend, drawing millions of views. Commissioner Richard Ross, who is black, said police received a 911 call from the Starbucks saying the men were trespassing.

Beyoncé brings Destiny's Child back at Coachella

It happened. After 12 long years, Destiny's Child reunited on stage. With Beyoncé headlining this year's Coachella music festival, her rabid "Beyhive" fanbase was already on cloud nine at the idea of Queen Bey performing. After over an hour featuring an elaborate medley of some her biggest hits — complete with a marching band accompaniment and husband and "OTR II" tour partner Jay-Z joining to perform their hit,  Déjà Vu —  Beyonce reunited onstage with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, her Destiny's Child colleagues. They proceeded to break the Internet.
