Trump blames Putin, Obama for 'mindless' chemical attack in Syria

President Trump issued a tweet-storm Sunday in response to an alleged gas attack on civilians in Syria by government forces, ripping "that animal Assad" and laying blame for the Syrian president's power on Russia, Iran and even former President Barack Obama. Trump tweeted after the White Helmets, a civil defense force in rebel-held areas of Syria, said entire families were gassed to death Saturday night in Douma and East Ghouta. The group, which put the death toll at more than 40, said many residents were hiding in cellars, suffocating from poison gas. The chemical attack is at least the eighth since Trump took office, and the latest grim chapter in a war that won't end.

Patrick Reed wins the Masters for first major title

Patrick Reed has won the Masters with a 1-under-par 71, confidently fighting off charges from Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler with clutch putts in the final round Sunday. Reed started the day with a three-shot lead over Rory McIlroy, but it was Spieth and Fowler who put up more red numbers. Four-time Masters champion Tiger Woods never got started this week and turned in a so-so performance, finishing at 1 over with rounds of 73-75-72-69.

Jimmy Kimmel tries to end feud with Sean Hannity

Jimmy Kimmel said on Twitter Sunday he wants to end his feud with Fox News host Sean Hannity after a war of words erupted last week over a joke Kimmel made about first lady Melania Trump's accent. Hannity called Kimmel "a despicable disgrace," and jabs between the two continued throughout the week. Kimmel said Sunday that the "level of vitriol from all sides (mine and me included) does nothing good for anyone."

The apartment destroyed in a raging fire at New York's Trump Tower that killed a resident and injured six firefighters had no sprinkler system, authorities said. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said Secret Service agents accompanied firefighters to check on the Trump residence. Nigro said no Trump family members were inside at the time.

Van plows into pedestrians in Germany

A driver of a delivery truck plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in the German city of Muenster Saturday, killing at least 2 people and injuring 20 before fatally shooting himself, German officials said. The driver of the van was a German citizen, according to Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state where Muenster is located. He stressed the investigation is at an early stage but "nothing speaks for there being any Islamist background." Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper identified the driver as a 49-year-old German, Jens. H., who, it said, had a history of psychological problems.
